PRIVACY POLICY

What we collect

When you use VigilGarden we collect a small amount of information that we need to operate the service:

• Information you submit: the name, dates, photos, biography, and tributes you put on a memorial.
• Account information: email address and any sign-in metadata if you create an account.
• Reminder subscriptions: the email address you provide to receive anniversary or birthday reminders.
• Payment information: if you purchase a tribute or annual candle, Stripe collects and processes your payment details. We never receive or store your card number.
• Technical data: IP address, browser, and basic request data we use to operate the site, prevent abuse, and rate-limit traffic.

How we use it

• To run the service you are using.
• To send the reminder emails you signed up for.
• To moderate and review memorial submissions.
• To process payments through Stripe.
• To investigate abuse, fraud, and violations of our Content Policy.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not run advertising on VigilGarden and do not share your information with advertisers.

Service providers

VigilGarden is built on a small set of trusted providers. These providers process limited data on our behalf:

• Vercel — hosting and content delivery.
• Supabase — database and authentication.
• Resend — sending email reminders and notifications.
• Stripe — processing payments.

Each provider has its own privacy practices. They are bound by our contracts with them to use your information only for the purposes we allow.

Public memorials

When a memorial is approved and published, the name, dates, photo, biography, and visitor tributes on it are publicly visible. Search engines may index public memorial pages. Pending memorials and memorials marked as hidden are not publicly visible.

If you submit information that you do not want to be public, do not add it to a memorial.

Email reminders

We only send reminder emails to addresses that have signed up. Every reminder includes a one-click unsubscribe link. We honor unsubscribe requests immediately.

Your choices

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Email support@vigilgarden.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. Some information must be retained to comply with legal or accounting obligations.

Residents of California, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and other regions may have additional rights under local law. We will honor valid requests under those laws.

Retention

We keep memorial content for as long as the memorial exists. We keep payment records as long as we are required to by tax and accounting laws. We keep reminder subscriptions until you unsubscribe or delete the account.

Children

VigilGarden is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated.
